When we talk about India, the first thing that comes to our mind is the diversity that India possesses in almost every aspect Specially the Indian Food. From the diverse cultures, to every form of religion, Incredible India is paralleled by none. Another thing which makes it stand apart from others, is the infinite variety in terms of food. Every part of India has its own special Indian Food. This just adds to the overall charm and makes the experience even more unforgettable for every avid traveler.

The Tastes of India

The regional food items are derived from the local cultures, traditions and the popular ingredients in the region. The dishes, like every other characteristic, define why India truly is the abode of variety. So when one is travelling to various parts of India, trying the local specialty of food is an absolute must. While we are on the topic of regional dishes, here is a list of the most famous cuisines from all over India. Almost all of these are sure to make the foodie within you jump with excitement and anticipation.

  1. North Indian Cuisine

Comprising of one of the tastiest collection of food, is the North Indian Food. It includes food from the regions of Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The dishes here have many characteristic ingredients like rice, dairy products, meat, wheat and fruits. A strong influence of Mughal culture is also found in a lot of areas, with dishes like Biryani and Kebabs being a real favorite with the people. With flavor to savor, the food of this region is bound to make you feel as though you are in heaven.

2. South Indian Cuisine

South Indian Food is the single most popular and widespread of all Indian cuisines. This is because of the fact that, despite simple flavors, it is too good to resist. Consisting of the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala, this cuisine makes the maximum use of ingredients like turmeric, coconut, rice, legumes and lentils. Such is the popularity of South Indian food, that even outside India, it is widely served in many restaurants as symbolic Indian food.

3. Rajasthani Cuisine

The Traditional Rajasthani, Indian Food is popular because of the one of a kind taste that it offers. Since Rajasthan is a land devoid of ample water, a lot of the food is made in milk and ghee. As a result, the dishes are very rich and consequently get the title of being ‘royal’. The main ingredients used here are . Also, the concept of thalis (many food items on a single plate) originated from this great desert land. 4. Gujarati Cuisine

The Gujarati dishes are simply sumptuous. While the taste might be too good to true, the dishes can be intimidating because of the names which can be very hard to pronounce. Another point to be noted is that this food is also very nutritious. The spices used in food vary from season to season. As a result, this cuisine stands apart from all others.

5. Goan Cuisine

Oh well! How could this have been avoided from the list. With lush beaches and sea water, delicious sea food is but a necessity. Hence, it is no wonder that Goan cuisine is right there with the best where sea food is concerned. Having a great deal of influence from foreign cultures of Spain and Portugal, the food here is mind blowing. The main ingredients apart from all kinds of sea food meat are rice, coconut and the fruit of kokum (a fruit bearing tree). Also, bread is very commonly consumed as a side-dish with almost all meals.

6. Bengali Cuisine

Bengali, Indian Food is undoubtedly one of the tastiest cuisines around. Such is its appearance and taste, that it is often compared to a particular type of French cuisine. The flavors are an absolute treat for the taste buds. This cuisine mainly uses ingredients like chili, pepper, mustard oil and a high amount of spices. The most commonly consumed dish is various types of fish. Also, Bengali food is the ultimate home for dessert lovers. Such is the available variety of sweet delicacies, that even after ages, you’ll still be left with a handful to try.
